Things to do
Watch the Sunset at Naples Beach or Lowdermilk Park
Watch a Naples Sunset
You haven’t really experienced Naples until you’ve watched the sun disappear directly into the Gulf.
But where you watch it matters.
For the Classic Naples Sunset
Head to Naples Beach around the 12th Avenue South/Pier area .
This puts you close to Third Street South and Old Naples, making it easy to combine dinner, a walk, and sunset.
Our favorite way to do it is to park downtown, explore Third Street South, then walk toward the Gulf as sunset approaches.
For Families
Go to Lowdermilk Park .
It’s one of the easiest Naples beaches if you’re bringing kids or spending several hours at the beach because you’ve got amenities right there instead of just a beach access at the end of a residential street.
When to Arrive
Don’t arrive at the exact sunset time.
Get there 45–60 minutes before sunset.
During busy season, give yourself even more time because parking can become the hardest part of the entire experience.
The hour before sunset is also one of the prettiest times to be on the beach. The temperature drops, the light gets softer, and the Gulf often starts looking completely different.
And don’t immediately leave when the sun disappears.
Stay another 15–20 minutes.
Some nights, the best pink, orange, and purple colors don’t show up until the sun is already below the horizon.
A Better Sunset Plan
Instead of driving directly to the beach at sunset, make an evening out of it:
4:30–5:00: Explore Fifth Avenue or Third Street About an hour before sunset: Start heading toward the beach Sunset: Walk the shoreline After sunset: Head back downtown for dinner or dessert
Adjust those times throughout the year based on the actual sunset.
Parking Is Where Visitors Get Tripped Up
Not every beach-end parking space in Naples is open to visitors.
Some beach accesses are restricted to vehicles with City of Naples or Collier County beach parking permits, while designated visitor accesses have paid parking.
Read the signs before leaving your car.
Getting a ticket is a terrible way to end a Naples sunset.
Naples Best Tips
If the western horizon looks partly cloudy, don’t automatically skip sunset . Clouds can create some of the most dramatic colors.
Keep looking at the water. Dolphins regularly travel along the Naples coastline, and the calmer light around sunrise and sunset can make them easier to notice.
If you want photos, the best pictures aren’t always of the sun itself. Turn around. The soft sunset light hitting the palms, homes, and people behind you can look even better.
And if you’re visiting around a holiday or during peak winter season, don’t expect to pull into Lowdermilk five minutes before sunset and casually find the perfect parking spot.
